| Six common bean cultivars (LPSPI 93-17, LPSPI 93-19, FT-Nobre, Aporé, Rudá and Campeão-1) and their 15 diallel hybrids were evaluated for four agronomic characteristics using Griffing's methodology (1956). The analysis indicated the predominance of non-additive gene effects for days to germination and plant height. The mean number of days to flowering and mean height of the first pod insertion were predominantly controlled by genes showing additive effects. | Ten popcorn inbred lines were crossed in a circulant partial diallel matching scheme (group of lines derived from IAC 112 × group of lines from 'Zaeli'). The hybrids were evaluated in respect to grain yield (GY), popping expansion (PE), and resistance to southern rust (Puccinia polysora, Pp), in randomized block design, with three replications. Data was examined by analyses of variance and Kempthorne and Curnow's diallel analysis. General combining ability (GCA) was significant (p < 0.10) in the set 2-Zaeli for GY, PE, and partial resistance to Pp. | The general combining ability (GCA), specific combining ability (SCA), and heterosis were studied in a complete diallel cross among fresh market tomato breeding lines with reciprocal excluded. | En algunas regiones de los estados de Puebla y Oaxaca, los jitomates (Solanum lycopersicum L.) nativos conocidos como ‘arriñonados’, ‘chinos criollos’, ‘cuadrados’ o ‘tipo pimiento’, ‘ojo de venado’ y ‘cereza’, son ampliamente cultivados para el autoconsumo y su comercialización local. Estos materiales deben estudiarse, pues poseen un gran valor cultural y alimenticio, además son fuentes de germoplasma para usarse en programas de mejoramiento genético del jitomate en México. | Pfaffia glomerata é uma espécie nativa da América do Sul e de ocorrência natural em alguns Estados do Brasil. Porém, as populações naturais de fáfia têm sido ameaçadas em decorrência do intenso extrativismo, em virtude de suas propriedades terapêuticas de interesse. No presente estudo, objetivou-se estimar a diversidade genética de quatro populações naturais oriundas da bacia do Rio Paraná. Os indivíduos foram multiplicados in vitro e caracterizados de acordo com o padrão eletroforético de marcadores RAPD, utilizando-se 268 marcas polimórficas obtidas a partir de 67 primers. | RESUMO: O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar a diversidade genética das cultivares de arroz mais utilizadas em cultivo no período de 1950 a 2001. Foram conduzidos dois experimentos de campo, nas localidades denominadas Aeroporto e Agronomia, ambas pertencentes à Universidade Federal de Viçosa, em Viçosa, MG. Os experimentos foram conduzidos no delineamento de blocos ao acaso com três repetições. Avaliaram se as 25 cultivares mais plantadas no período de 1950 a 2001. | Several studies to evaluate nitrogen use efficiency (NUE) have been carried out using early growth stages. However, there are no scientific reports on the ideal stage for evaluation and on which characteristics have the highest correlation with the NUE at that stage.
